June 24, 2020

Dear Parents/Guardian,

Florence 3 is committed to providing a safe learning environment for all students and staff during our Rock and Learn Academic Camps July 6-30, 2020.  We will practice social distancing, wear facial masks (students and staff), and follow recommended guidelines from DHEC and the CDC.  We also need your help in keeping our schools safe.

Students will not be able to attend camp if they answer “yes” to any of the following questions:

  • Have you been in close contact with a confirmed case of COVID-19?

  • Are you experiencing a cough, shortness of breath or sore throat?

  • Have you had a fever in the last 48 hours?

  • Have you experienced new loss of taste or smell?

  • Have you experienced vomiting or diarrhea in the last 24 hours?

Please update the summer camp administrator and your child’s principal if you answer “yes” to any of the above questions during summer camp.

Students must be screened for fever when entering the school building:

  • Temperatures will be taken with no-touch thermometer each day upon arrival.

  • Normal temperature does not exceed 100.4 degrees Fahrenheit.

  • Students with temperatures of 100.4° F or higher are to be placed in the schools identified quarantine area (not the health room) and a parent is to be notified that the student needs to be picked up immediately.

  • Any student who exhibits COVID-19 symptoms, who answers yes to any of the screening questions or who is running a fever, should leave the campus immediately and seek medical care or COVID-19 testing or both.

According to the CDC, depending on your healthcare provider’s advice and availability of testing.  You can be with others after you have been three days with no fever, symptoms have improved and it has been 10 days since symptoms first appeared.  Please remember the importance of safety first.

We are excited to have three Rock and Learn Camp locations which also includes 21st Century Camps:

  • 4K-3rd and LCECCA’s 21st Century Camps at Lake City Early Childhood Center, 906 N. Matthews Road.  Students will attend camp from 8:00-3:00 pm, Monday through Thursday. The car rider loop will open at 7:30 am in the front of the building.

  • 4th-6th, MSE and OMS 21st Century Camps at Main Street Elementary, 318 E. Main Street.  Students will attend camp from 8:30-3:30 pm, Monday through Thursday. The car rider loop will open at 8:00 am on the Blanding Street side of the school, through the gate.

  • 7th-8th Academic, REM, and JPT 21st Century Camps at Ron E. McNair, 311 Carver Street.  Students will attend camp from 8:30-3:30 pm, Monday through Thursday. The car rider loop will open at 8:00 am in front of the building.

Remember, camp is designed to help reduce the usual summer learning loss by providing instruction in fun, interactive, and engaging ways.  We will focus on “Essential Learning Standards” at each grade level in ELA and Math and will also help students transitioning into Kindergarten.  STEM and arts integration will also be a major part of our summer camps.

Attendance is very important to fully benefit from the instruction, so please commit to attend all 16 days. Each camp will operate Monday through Thursday.  This is a change from our original hybrid plan of A/B days.

If your child will be a bus rider, please make sure you have provided one pick up and drop off location.  Due to strict guidelines, we will not be able to change bus routes.

Enclosed are Health Forms, please complete these forms and return them on the first day of campOur teachers and staff are super excited to see our students.

If you have any questions or concerns, please contact us at (843) 374-8652 ext. 1108.

Sincerely,

March 31, 2020

Good Evening Panther Family,

We thank you for your patience and flexibility during this time of transition for us all! Teachers will be contacting families, starting tomorrow, to walk you through how you will log in to Google Classroom to view your child's work. If you do not have a computer, laptop or tablet at home, we will be distributing devices on Friday, April 3, 2020 from 10:00am-1:00pm. Devices will be picked up in the car rider line in the front of the school. Please remain in your vehicle and someone will assist you. If you have a device at home or have picked up a device from another school for a sibling, you do not need to come on Friday. We are giving out one device to each household. Thank you for your cooperation and all that you are doing to help our children to continue their learning and growing! Have a great night!

March 29, 2020

Good Evening Panther Family!

I hope that this message finds everyone well! I would like to thank everyone for their flexibility and commitment during this time to ensure that our children are still able to continue their learning! As we move forward with the extension of school closures, we are going to be making some changes. We will begin an eLearning model across the district for students. The district is working to ensure that each household has at least one device for the students to complete their work on. More information will be sent out next week about device pickups from our school. If you have children at other schools, they may pick up from that school and that will be the device for the house, you will not need to go to every school. Teachers will be in contact with families beginning on Wednesday, April 1st, to walk everyone through how to get on their devices and where to find their work. Please continue to be patient as we all go through this transition together.
The packets that students have been working on will be dropped at the school from Monday-Thursday next week. To remain safe and practice social distancing, there will be a bin placed on the sidewalk out front for each grade level. Please drop the packet in the appropriate bin. Be sure your child's name is on the work. For times that the bins will be out front, please refer to the schools Facebook page and our website.
Our teachers are missing all of their babies, so we will be doing a teacher parade on Monday, beginning at 1:15. We will go down Mathews Rd., make a loop down Moore St, then we will go to Blanding and Wallace St. and wrap up our route coming back up Main St. We would love to see as many of our students outside as possible! We pray that everyone is well and remains safe. Even though we are at home, continue to work on those 3R's Ready, Respectful and Responsible! Have a great weekend!!

March 24, 2020

COLUMBIA, S.C. –
Governor Henry McMaster and South Carolina Superintendent of Education Molly Spearman today released the following joint statement announcing that South Carolina’s schools will remain closed for the duration of the month of April:

“At this time, students, parents, and families should plan for South Carolina’s schools to remain closed through the month of April. Our dedicated teachers and school administrators have done a tremendous job in making it possible for our students to learn at home. We understand that the prospect of schools remaining closed for an extended period of time places stress and strain on parents and children. Rest assured, if there is any way to safely open our schools earlier, we will do that, but schools must remain closed to protect the health and safety of South Carolinians.”

On March 15, Governor McMaster issued Executive Order 2020-09, which closed public schools for students and non-essential employees through March 31st. The governor will issue an additional executive order to extend the K-12 school closures through the month of April in the coming days.

As his previous executive order did, the governor’s executive order will apply to the state’s public colleges, universities, and technical colleges, and encourage those institutions to maintain existing plans to provide instruction through virtual learning.
